Let's make it a BMW!!!! A Bold and Meaningful Welcome

We all know that building a strong learning community takes time and commitment on the part of the teacher which begins at Open House. In the past I have seen many creative and welcoming ways from many of you! Let's share the wealth of ideas by posting your favorite community building activities, strategies, books, visual displays, etc. Kath

PS Joan, I was thinking of you with this slogan!!!!!!

Here are some ideas for your Open House welcome packet: information about yourself, special schedules (you will find out after August 18th), community building, discipline (following K-4 guidelines), birthday procedures (no sugary treats please), STAR student of the week procedures, times you are available, contact information (e-mail and phone), homework expectations, Let's Read expectations (see website for details), parent helpers in the classroom, etc. Ask to see copies of those teachers who have been teaching at Meadowbrook for years............I am sure they will be happy to share their thinking and work in progress.

I found a Free CD for Primary grades when searching for resources that you may wish to order for your classroom @ Teaching for Tolerance.

From NEA (National Education Association) here are some ideas for starting off the year right!
